Announcing
Analytica 4.0 beta

Analytica 4.0
Our next major release, 4.0, is now available for beta testing to all Analytica users with current maintenance - i.e. if you purchased Analytica in the last 12 months or have extended maintenance. Early beta testers (and our QA department) say that release 4.0 is already as stable as 3.1. Its many new features include:

  • Graphing: The graphing engine is completely new, offering a rich array of new chart styles and options, including stacked bars, vertical or horizontal view, filled areas, symbol size, log scales, color fills, shaded backgrounds, font style and color, export as jpeg, png, graph templates and more.
  • Auto save: Analytica saves every change to a model, so that you won't lose any work after an unexpected crash of hardware or software.
  • Tables: Dropdown menus in cells, Find text in tabls, Subtable, and keyboard shortcuts similar to spreadsheets.
  • Diagrams: Tools to help arrange diagrams more elegantly, URL links from text nodes.
  • Functions: Many new and expanded functions, new probability distributions, importance sampling, ability to call other applications, and more.
For details, see What's New in Analytica 4.0. If you'd like to join the beta test program and try out Analytica 4.0, email support@lumina.com to get a free beta license code and free download.
(If you install 4.0 on your computer, it will still retain your existing Analytica 3.1, so you can go back to 3.1 any time you want. But, we don't think you'll want to.)

Analytica Wiki
The new Analytica Wiki or Anawiki is a shared source of information created by and for Analytica users. Now it documents the new features of Analytica 4.0 for the use of beta testers. Over time, it will grow to include a great deal more, including FAQs, tips, examples, shared libraries, and detailed reference material. Because it's a wiki, you can improve and add material, as well as read it like Wikipedia. We at Lumina wrote the initial content. But, we invite all Analytica users to contribute. If you can't find what you want - or it isn't clear - feel free to add your comments and requests. You are welcome to share any tips, examples, or libraries that might be of value to others. For now, it's accessible only to Analytica 4.0 beta testers. You'll get a password when you sign up.

Webinars on modeling topics
Lumina is launching a live webinar series to help Analytica users hone their modeling skills. The next few will focus on how to benefit from 4.0 features. If you are a 4.0 beta tester see Anawiki for details. Let us know if you have other topics you'd like us to cover.

Analytica and the environment
Many environmental scientists and risk analysts are using Analytica to model and understand important environmental problems. We've put together a special section of case studies environmental applications, ranging from water quality in the Neuse estuary, food safety of farmed salmon, emissions trading, and global warming, and a tool for lifecycle cost assessment. For details, see our environmental case studies.

Live Webinar demos
Do you have colleagues who could benefit from using Analytica? You might want to let them know about Lumina's weekly webinars. Seeing a live demo is the easiest way to understand what Analytica is about. The webinars include a Q&A session with an Analytica expert.

To participate, all they need is a telephone and broadband connection. The next webinar is on Wednesday July 25th, 2007 at 10.00am PDT. For details, they can visit Webinar, or just email sales@lumina.com to sign up. If you have a small group, we can schedule a webinar at your convenience.

Each Analytica Newsletter contains brief news of new releases, hints and guidelines for using Analytica, and case studies on interesting applications. We send it at most once a month.
